A brief history...

By the end of this post you will know far more about me than you probably need to...However, I promise it will be much more brief (and hopefully less painful) than A Brief History of Seven Killings, which, I will admit, I didn’t finish.
See you have already discovered your first golden nugget of information: I am a high school English Teacher and love nothing more than a pun (one using the title of a book? Even better!). I love all things literature, craft, history and travel so my blog will be a weird mashup of all my favourite things and provide the narcissistic - wishes she was an author - side of my personality time to shine! I will also be giving you a behind the scenes look at my craft projects so that you can learn right along with me. You can see my etsy shop here.
Here are all the answers to the questions you never asked:
Favourite travel destination?
As cliched as it sounds my favourite travel destination so far has to be Italy. I studied Ancient History as part of my University degree so have a love of Ancient Rome. You also can’t beat some of the views - from the Amalfi to the Cinque Terre, Lake Como and Tuscany. There is nothing better than settling back for aperitivo and enjoying the view!
What was the most defining moment of your life?
Moving from Australia to London at the end of 2012 has probably been the most defining part of my adult life in so many ways. Moving from a small rural town in Australia to the ‘big smoke’ in London, starting my teaching career and spending nearly four years away from my family have had a huge impact on who I am today.
Best book you have read recently?
Hands down it has to be A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. I am a great follower of the Man Booker Prize and try to read a few from the short list. This one was both poignant and beautifully written. Warning: it is also one of the most depressing books I have ever read (not sure what that says about me!).
Why did you choose your profession?
I started out in a law degree and came around to the idea of teaching three years in. I was determined to go against the recommendations of both my parents and high school teachers that I was destined for the job. I came around eventually, and even though I do think I am suited to the job it doesn’t make dealing with the British education system any easier!
Favourite movie?
The Great Escape - the perfect mix of history and fun, a great score and who doesn’t love Steve McQueen.
If you could witness any historical event of the past, present or the future, what would it be?
Being a history buff there are so many different moments that come to mind. One of them would be arriving on the first ship with those who colonised Australia. To arrive in Botany Bay and see the landscape before it was altered by human hands, view interactions with the native population and see the difficulties they faced coming from England to harshness of Australia. Although, who would say no to seeing the future?
What is your dream job?
Owning my own bookshop/craft store. I love the idea of being able to combine my two favourite things and especially the idea of sharing them with others all day long.
